On Monday, I tested my no-step vertical and my best jump was only 29.6" which is an inch below my best from Week 2. I think it was just a bad day. It also may indicate that I need to get a little extra rest and so I've taken this week off. Several trainers recommend doing 4 weeks on and then 1 week off and so I decided to take their advice. This week I've played some basketball, done some pushups, and stretching. It has been weird to sleep in and has made me feel lazy. But, hopefully it's just what my body needs.
I will start my training again on Monday and go another 4 weeks really hard and may take another week off. We'll see how it goes. I've modified a few things to my workout and am excited about that. I've been on creatine now for about 6 weeks and will go off it for the next 4 weeks or so. Should be able to get my weight down at least 5 lbs but hopefully can keep the added strength. I'm also going to take a break from Freak Jump Technique for the next 4 weeks and will re-start again in March.
Since my vertical jump results this week were less than stellar, I'll instead share a quick video of me shooting some 3's yesterday. Man I love basketball.
Nice shooting! I hate weeks like that when, no matter how hard you try, you can't jump as high as previous attempts. Enjoy the time off.
ReplyDeletethanks man! I think it has been good to rest. But, will find out as the weeks go on...
DeleteYa, man you got a nice shot. Are you still lifting every week? How is your squat coming?
ReplyDeletethanks! I love to shoot!
Deleteyep - I've been lifting 4 days a week. Today I decided to test my max lifts on squat and bench to see how much progress I've made. For squat, I did 265 for 2 reps and my right knee started to hurt. Weird pain that I've never felt before so I decided not to go any higher. But, I felt like I could have done a little more...guessing 275 might be realistic max right now. Still wanting to get to 300 or more.
I also wanted to test my max on deadlift but since my knee was feeling weird I decided not to.
For bench, I was able to get 225 x 1 rep which is the most I've done in at least 10 years or so. I'm pretty happy about that.
I have some knee pain too. I bought a couple McDavid Deluxe knee supports off of Amazon and it works like magic. I sound like a shill, but now I don't do any exercises without it or else my knee feels naked.
DeleteAnyways, keep going hard! I think i'm going to squat 225 for the first time today so I'm excited!
haven't heard of those will check them out.
Deletei tried your website by the way and couldn't get it too load.
sounds like your making progress on your squat! that is great!
Ouch that sounds scary. Does your knee feel fine now?
DeleteYeah - it kind of freaked me out. But, seems to be fine. I played basketball this morning and did my jump manual workout and no problems. I rested a ton on saturday and sunday and iced and seems to have done the trick. Hopefully it's just a one time thing.
DeleteProgress is slow but steady.
ReplyDeleteWhoops, I forgot that you need the "www", so www.pislamajama.com/dj.
also, if you do go the knee support route, the medium size was perfect for me and I'm 6' 175.
pretty cool man! i will set-up an account and start using it!
DeleteThanks man! Any feedback is appreciated!
DeleteNice shooting. I've kinda taken a break from the jump training until I finish basketball season. I play for 2 different teams so I play about 5-6 times a week including morning and lunch with work guys. So my legs are usually shot. Hope to get back to it soon. Lost about an inch on my jump, but should come back pretty quick.
ReplyDeleteI can relate. Last year, I was playing on 3 teams and it made it so hard to train. But, it's so fun to play! Enjoy it!
DeleteAnd your jumping will come back when you have some time to recover.
Hi I'm 20 years old and I really want to invest into the jump manual. I was wondering if you can give me a review on it? And also where I can purchase it! Your videos are very inspiring and it makes me want to dunk too. I literally have no hops and could barely touch the net. Thank you for your time and consideration!
ReplyDeleteSure - I'm a big fan of the Jump Manual! Been doing it off and on for quite a while. I've been tracking my progress and experience on this blog.

Thanks I appreciate you taking your time and answering back. I'm really hoping to see improvements in my vertical. Not a big athletic guy, being the fact im 6'1 and under weight by 25lbs.
Deletesure man! how much do you weigh?
DeleteIm 143lbs, my ideal weight that I want is about 160-70. I'm on some weight gainer protein but Im not sure exactly if they work. Been inconsistent with my weight lately.
Deletei was only about 10 lbs bigger than you when i was 19-20. had a very hard time gaining weight. not so much now that i'm 41!
Deletehave you tried creatine? i wish i had taken that back in the day. that stuff has always helped me gain weight. creatine, protein shake (or other good protein source) after your workouts and you should put on weight. i would limit your cardio as well.
You've been such a great help! I am about to start my 1st day of Jump Manual in about 1hr. I can't wait to see progress! Hopefully it was worth investing into. My goal is as the same as yours, too hopefully 2h Tomahawk dunk or get one nice alley oop 2h. I am probably going to blog about it or keep a video track of it myself. You have been such an inspiration! keep up the work and I hope you get to your goal! I might drop by here and there with a few questions. Thank you so much for your time!
Deleteso cool! keep me posted on how things go!
Deleteif you create a blog, send over the link!
good luck!!!
nice 3s!
ReplyDeleteI'm still waiting on my ipod to arrive to start my nike+ for vertical measurements. I haven't workout since Thanksgiving, and I'm just doing non-weight workouts from jump manual not to lose what I have. I'm turning 30 this week, and I still can't dunk :(, my goal is to dunk before June 21, which is my graduation day from pharm school :)
Hopefully, I can join 24hr fitness soon and start lifting weights again. I keep coming to your blog weekly to see how much you gain and keep myself motivated. Good luck this week!
thanks man!
Deletei'm jealous! i am very tempted to get those nike hyperdunks for the nike+ system. let me know how you like them. i tried them on a couple of times and they didn't feel right. super narrow or something. maybe you just have to get used to them.
good luck reaching your goal! put in the work and you can do it!
I got the grey ones from Nike.com for $95. and sensors from finishline for $80 (no shipping from finishline :) )I have pretty narrow and long feet. I haven't played in them yet, so I will let you know how it feels.
Deletepretty good deal! yeah let me know how you like them. i have been wearing kobe's the last 2 years or so and really liked the kobe vi's. do not like the kobe vii's near as much. gonna check out the kobe viii's soon
DeleteNot bad for an old man! ;)
